Today, instead of speaking about GPP's programs and services, I'm writing this blog entry as the first entry in our new "Blog of Blurbs", as we have heard from many people in the community that they want to know more about Garden of Peace Project, the people who run it, and how to find their Garden of Peace Project. We define each person's garden of peace as a place where one feels safest, feels at home, and most at peace with themselves. Personally, I find my garden of peace in the cold, early morning in the middle of the woods when I'm alone and can see my breath. There, no one is talking and the air is listening to me and only me. When I go camping, hiking, rock climbing, or just for a walk down on the North Shore, I feel at peace and at home with my Self.
Each year, as we approach New Year's Day, we begin to think about our new year's resolutions, what we want to change in the coming year. Last year, for the first time, I chose to reveal some of my new year's resolution with my friends and family and I kept one resolution to myself. My private resolution was to meditate twice a day, every day.. And, I did it. I found that when I knew that other people wouldn't check up on me, I felt free to do my meditation on my own terms with no pressure. In 365 days, I meditated just over 750 times!
Today, I'm making a commitment to have two public new year's resolutions:
- To visit my personal garden of peace at least once a month.
- To make a commitment to my own personal wellness.
This afternoon, before you go out to celebrate the change of the new year, I challenge you to define your new year's resolutions. Maybe you will have a new year's resolution that you want to keep to yourself. Perhaps you have a new year's resolution that GPP or someone else can help you achieve. If others can help or empower you to meet your goal(s), we encourage you to share your resolution. And, if you have a goal or dream that seems too far-fetched, please check below for my favorite video from 2013! (He's 8 years-old)
I look forward to a year filled with growth, peace, and wellness with all of you.. Happy New Year!
